Abstract

Networks, collaborations and partnerships between schools can take multiple forms and achieve multiple objectives. This can make them hard to make sense of – and even harder to lead and manage. Nevertheless, this chapter argues that policy makers should think carefully about where and how they want to encourage school-to-school networking as part of wider reform efforts, and what they need to put in place to make this happen successfully. The majority of schools in England today engage in networks, and the development of school-to-school collaboration has been a significant feature of education policy since the early 2000s. This chapter outlines these developments and draws out some of the key learning from research and experience to identify implications for policy and practice.
